ok, so african american women and men started off rock. They invented jazz music. For the next fifty years women had almost
no influence on the evolution of rock at all. In the nineteen-fifties, many girl groups emerged, and they often made it into
the top fifty charts. But sadly, sexism was common back then, and as soon as they were off the charts, they were out of business. When
the girl group era more or less came to an end in the mid 60s, most of the artists who were still actively pursuing musical
careers faded into obscurity. Then in the seventies women rock and pop singers became popular again, such as Janis Joplin,
Joni Mitchell,And Helen Reddy. from then to the twenty-first century, women groups were fairly succesfull. Now there are the
cool singers like Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Ashlee Simpson, and all the others that are really cool. so thats pretty
much the history of womens rock.
